Expert commentary

The 2020 vintage demonstrates remarkable purity and density, exhibiting rich cassis and blackberry fruit underpinned by Saint-Estèphe's trademark graphite edge. Muscular, finely sculpted tannins and brisk acidity support the generous alcohol, delivering exemplary focus and a sustained finish.

Serving and ageing guide

This wine is of outstanding quality, achieving remarkable balance between immense tannic power, ripe concentration, and energetic acidity. Aroma intensity on the nose is high, offering focused cassis, blackberry, cedar, and graphite. Flavour intensity on the palate is likewise high, aligning seamlessly with the nose as dense dark fruit fully absorbs the firm oak tannins and high alcohol, culminating in a persistent, complex finish. The wine can drink now but has potential for ageing. Although open and expressive after decanting, its dense structural framework will evolve positively over the next 20 to 30 years. Serve at 16–18°C, decanting for at least two hours if opening in youth. It makes an ideal partner for roasted venison, grilled ribeye steak with shallot reduction, or braised lamb shank.
