The background that matters
Professor Abraham Izak Perold of Stellenbosch University crossed Pinot Noir with Cinsaut, then known locally as Hermitage, in 1924 and planted the seeds in 1925. The first Pinotage wine dates from 1941.

The Kadette Pinotage 2024 is 100% Pinotage, fermented in open-top concrete tanks and matured for 12 months in second- and third-fill French oak barrels. Its published profile lists red fruit, black fruit and spice as primary aromas and oak as a secondary aroma, with medium(+) acidity and tannin, high alcohol and a deep purple colour.
Try it with the review
Set the oak listed as a secondary aroma beside the 12 months in second- and third-fill barrels, then ask whether the review alone can tell you where the medium(+) tannin comes from.
