The background that matters
Rioja stretches almost 100 km from west to east along both banks of the Ebro, from Haro, its westernmost town, to Alfaro, its easternmost. Across that span, ‘Rioja’ on a label does not by itself tell you where the grapes were grown.
Read it alongside this wine
The 2017 is 85% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano and 5% Mazuelo from the Torremontalbo vineyard, with vines facing mainly south and east, and 24 months in American and French oak. Read the published review as the record of this bottling, not of every Rioja or every CVNE wine.
Try it with the review
Before reading the review, look up what ‘Gran Reserva’ requires under the Rioja rules. Then separate statements about oak and bottle age from those about fruit or structure, and ask whether the label term alone could have predicted them.
Learning prompts are not guaranteed tasting results; distinguish producer facts from your observations.
