The background that matters
Maurice O’Shea founded Mount Pleasant in 1921 after six years studying viticulture and oenology in France; with his mother Léontine and brother Jack he bought the Old Hill vineyard and adjoining land. He bought the Lovedale site in 1939, but it was requisitioned as a wartime runway and planted only in 1946.
Read it alongside this wine
Maison lists the featured bottle as Hunter Valley Semillon 2023, with no vineyard name, so do not apply the Lovedale story to it unless the label names that vineyard. Its published profile is dry, with high acidity, light body, medium alcohol, medium flavour intensity and a medium(+) finish; its aroma groups are citrus fruit, green fruit and mineral, and it is assessed as drinkable now with potential to develop.
Try it with the review
Use the review to explain how high acidity can sit with a light body, and note which structural points it gives for the wine’s potential, rather than assuming every Hunter Semillon ages the same way.
Learning prompts are not guaranteed tasting results; distinguish producer facts from your observations.
