OIV publishes 2026 Northern Hemisphere harvest estimates: climate resilience and concentrated fruit

On 27 September, the OIV published harvest estimates for the Northern Hemisphere in 2026. While spring frosts and summer heatwaves reduced European yields below average, early harvesting and rigorous sorting yielded healthy, phenolic-rich fruit.

The International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV) published its latest update on the 2026 grape harvest across the Northern Hemisphere on 27 September 2026.

According to the report, spring frost during flowering and summer heatwaves reduced overall production in key regions across France, Italy, and Spain to some of the lowest levels in three decades. However, historically early harvest dates across major wine regions allowed growers to harvest healthy grapes with strong phenolic maturity and concentrated aromas.

The report also highlighted the growing effectiveness of climate adaptation practices, including modified canopy management and protective shading nets across European vineyards.
