The background that matters
The Sicilia DOC covers the whole administrative region of Sicily, with sharply different relief: mainly mountainous in the north, hilly in the centre-south and south-west, a plateau in the south-east and volcanic in the east. Climates also differ, from a mild coast, where the provinces of Trapani, Palermo and Agrigento average about 18 °C a year with 400–500 mm of rain and little or none in the warm season, to a humid Etna and mountain chains where rainfall can reach 1,000 mm or more.
Read it alongside this wine
This Feudo Arancio Grillo, a native Sicilian white grape, comes from the Acate area in the province of Ragusa, one of its two estates on the south coast. Ragusa is not among the provinces behind the coastal figures above, so those numbers should not be read as this vineyard’s climate. The 2025 is assessed as dry, with medium(+) acidity, medium body and alcohol, and floral, citrus fruit, stone fruit and tropical fruit aroma groups.
Try it with the review
Before reading the review, write down what you expect from the word ‘Sicily’, then compare your notes with the published profile. Which expectations does the profile bear out, and which can it neither confirm nor rule out?
